BOARD OF WORKS.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held on Friday evening, Eebruary 20. Present : Messrs J. Percy (Chairman), R. Burn, D.Burns, W.Jennings, G. Thompson, and J. R. DodsoD. A letter was received from Mr W-adman, asking permission to place a | flap over the cellar of the Albion Hotel adjoining the roadway. Agreed to on certain conditions. The following tenders were received for iron work. for City Drainage, contract No. 2 5 — John Moutray — Cast iron work for grates and man-hole frames and covers, 258 per cwt; wrought iron work for haud irons and cesspits, 4-^d per lb. Alexander Brown — Cast-iron work for grates and man hole frames and covers, 22s per cwt.; wrought ironfor hand irons and traps for cesspits, ' 4^d per lb. Proposed and carried — That the tender of Alexander Brown be accepted. J The Surveyor stated that he had seen j the Manager of the Gas and Water Works, Mr Mirfin, with regard to' the i pipes running through tbe new drain now in hand. Mr Mirfin quite agreed with the Surveyor that it would be necessary to have the drain free from obstructions, and that if tbe Board desired it, the pipes would be removed. After a discussion it was arranged that the Public Works Committee, together with the Purveyor and Mr Mirfin, should meet on the works on Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, to arrange the matter. The Inspector of Nuisances was instructed to have the branches of the trees overhanging the footpaths .in Kawai and other streets in the town lopped off at once. The Board then adjourned until Friday, March 6, at 7 o'clock p.m.
