MARLBOROUGH SUPERINTKNDENCY. — The election took place yesterday, aDd so far as the returns were in this morning the numbers were :— - Seymour 385, Baillia 199. Woollen Industry. —We understand that the Government have it in contemplation to aek the Council for a sum of money to be offered as an incentive to tbe woollen industry. Not only cloth, but hlaukets, yam, &c, will be included in the articles for which it is proposed to give tho bonus. Fatal Accident. — A most painful, and ultimately fatal, accident occurred yesterday to Mr Fuller, au old WalcaI uika settler, who was out on his farm when he lighted his pipe, and threw the match over his shoulder. Unfortunately it was not extinguished, and the dry grass and fern took fire, and before he was aware of it, the old man, who was 70 years of ago, was surrounded by flames, though which he endeavored to make his escape. Strange to say, hiß legs were comparatively uninjured, but his coat and shirt were reduced to tinder, and from the top of his head to his hips he was most fearfully burnt. The accident was witnessed by some persons at a distance, who took the unfortunate man home, and Dr Farrelle was at once sent for, but he could do nothing to save him, and death ensued at six o'clock this morning., An immense haul of fish was made on Saturday last by natives at Maketu. The net was three-quarters of n mile long, and 350 natives drew it in. It contained 4000 fisb, weighing 10 tons. The Europeans' Bhare is one ton. — < Herald.' The Auckland ' Herald ' of Monday soys : — 'The Mikado arrived alongside tlie wharf yesterday morning from Wellington, having on board the Hou. Julius Vogel, Premier, the Hon. Mr Richardsou, Minister of Public Works; and Mr Carruthers, Engineer-in-Chief, accompanying them. Mr Vogel will probably remain in Auckland about a fortnight, or until the departure of the next San Francisco mail leaves here for the Southern ports.
