The Church Assembly meets tomorrow, and will probably end this week. McCallum More, Ace of Trumps, and Sir Hercules, have advanced in the betting for the Geelong handicap. Flour, £14; wheat, 6s to 6s 2d. Most of that which has recently arrived is going to the millers or being stored Malt, 9a 66 for export. The plans for the bridge over the Murray at Eucha are ready, and they will be sent to Sydney on Monday. It is expected that the bridge will be Gnished within two years. The Tartar came up the bay this morning after a fine passage of 23 days from Hong Kong. The Essex, outward bound for London, collided with the barqm Pulace, at anchor at the Heads, bound for Newcistle. Both vessels are damaged. The latter has returned to the'Bay for repairs, Newcastle, February 1. Tbe Yana and Surprise, echooners, coal laden, bound for Sydney, were both wrecked on the North Beach early thia morning. The crew of the Yarra came safely to shore ia their boats, but the crew of the Surprise had a narrow escape of their livee. The mortar apparatus missed the vessel, and the crew then took to their boat which capsized in the* heavy surf, throwing the occupants six in number into the sea. With the assistance of those from the shore five were at once picked up •in an exhausted condition. The missing oue, a boy, was found drifting along with the breakers, and with the assistance of Messrs Stokes and Holt was brought ashore in an almost lifeless condi tion, but was ultimately brought round. Both vessels broke up within an hour. The debris was strewed along the beach. West Maitland, Febraary 1. A man named Webster was drowned this morning in the flood water. The river is lowering fast. Much distress prevails amongst the people flooded out. Adelaide, February 2. Tbe banquet to tbe officers of the Pera was a success. Captain Methan made a good speech. He declared that the danger in calling at Glenelg was not so great as in calling at Newbury. The Treasury is repaying the principal and interest on account of the Northern Territory land orders to Eng' lish and colonial holders. A claim of the North Australian for between £35,000 and £40,000 is expected shortly. Albury, Febuary 1. The rush of produce across to Victoria is amazing. It is calculated from various sources that the trade across the bridge since the opening of the railway to Woodunga to this day is as follows : — November, 1060 bales wool, 490 bags flour, and 100 bags of wheat ; December, 4160 bales of woolj 770 bags flour, and 471 bags wheat; January, 1340 bales of wool, 2285 bags of flour, 8300 bags of wheat, and 500 casks of wine; tobacco (manufactured and unmanufactured) about 450 packages. Speoial trains are running to meet the demand, yet every available place in Wodouga is used for storage. The bridge tol.'s have trebled. The amount of the past week's return of merchandise from Victoria is not much over the usual trade. Wheat has fallen this week from 5s 6d to 4s 6i.
