Aiiaxjra Races.— This race meeting ia fixed f~r the 2nd and 3rd of March. The principal events will be a handicap race of 75 Boys, second horse to receive \0 soys from stakes, and the Town Plate of 50 soys, second horse to save his stake. Mr Hustler will act as handicapper. Inspection Parades.— The Artillery Company will parade in the Botanical Gardens this evening at 7 o'clock, for inspection by Major Gordon, when the New Zealand war medal will be presented to Gunner Hansen, who served under Colonel Wbitmore in the Uriwera expedition. Other parades are called elsewhere on various dates, which will be seen in the advertisement. Fines ot £5 can be inflicted for non-attendance at these annual inspection parades.
Australian Bellringers.— The Lynch family of bellriDgers gave their farewell performance last night at the Masonic ball, every part of which wag crowded to excess The entertainment was quite as successful as its predecessors, and the various items of the progntmme when rendered on every occasion elicited great flpplauee from the large audience present. Mrs Palmer presided at the piano with her usual ability. It is not very probable thut the Lynch family will appear again in Kelson for some considerable period, but whenever they do thoy may always depend upon securing good houses. United Gathering of Chribtians. — On Tuesday services of a most interesting character were conducted on the grounds occupied by Mr Short, College Hill. From £ past 10 to -\ past 11. was devoted to social prayer, from J past 1 L to 1 o'clock addresses were delivered on personal holiness and Christian work by various ministers and lay brethren of different churches. About 100 persons attended these meetings which were held in the drawing room, at i past 2 the third meeting commenced under the shade of the trees and closed at 7 }- to 5, several brethren spoke on the union of Christians, personal dedication to God, and suggested various ways of doing good. Alter tea which ws served on the grounds the closing meeting for Evangelistic addresses commenced at 6 o'clock, the number having increased during the day about 200 now being present. After various stirring addresses the day's services were brought to a close at 8 o'clock with the doxology and benediction. — Ccmmun icated. Exchange of Compliments.-— !?herß was some smart sparring— some people might call it h#xd bitting — last night between Mr Donne and the Provincial Treasurer. The former gentleman said that he had heard a rumor that Mr Shephard had mg.de certain stipulations on accepting office, in reply to which Mr Shephard asked him to gjve his authority. Mr Dorme — I conld, but I don't care to. Mr Shephard— Just the answer I expected His oniy authority ia his own brain and lively imagination, and what he 8 vb js utterly false. Mr Dorme — False, sir, false i The honorable member dare not say that to me outside the walls of this Chamber. Mr Shephard — I don't say it is a wilful untruth, but I repeat that it is utterly false. I have a right to ask f>r your authority. Mr Donne— Will you hold your tongue? Mr Shephard — I think, Mr Speaker, that such objectionable language should be checked. The Speaker — In telling an honorable member to hold his tongue, the honorable member for Charleston made use of language that is unworthy of this place^ and unworthy of himself.
