CHARITY.

To the Editor op the Evening Mail

Sir — Nelson is without n doubt a place which comes under the denomination of a/ charitable p are, I mean, with regard to rendering assistcnee in case* of distress or accident. The people although not wealthy, as a rule, are always willing to give their mite towards a real charitable cause. Our bazaars for instance are a ease in point;, all strive to nid in the cause of charity. The lamented death of Campion is a case in which all our sympathies should be brought out; a woman left with a family of young childrcV suddenly, without means— you may say with- , out a h-me— is a case which should call fortj/ our best endeavors to excite " Charity." / The people at Takaka came nobly forward in thin commendable cause Now as Nelson U proveibial ior another graceful attribute, viz., music, cannot her musical powers be brought to tear, and a concert got up for the bent fit t f this deserving famiiy ? The Supi rintendent would no doubt grant the use of the Provincial Hall for ;he occasion. lam sure/ our musical amateurs would be but too happj/ to render assistance I shall be most willini to unite with any two musical men for thl management of a concert, and to render assistance. A list will remain at Mr Stnnton'l f r seven days. Ladies and gentlemen whp\ will kindly assist either bs vocnli ts or' instrumentalists will be so good as to call and put down thtir name?. With economical management I feel cure that a sum of money could be procured worthy of such a cause, an i thus aid a poor woman with a family cast upon the world penniless ut a moment's notice. I am, &c, H. J. L. .Augarde
