PROVINCIAL. Dunedin, January 17. The Surat inquiry is concluded. Mr. Be oth'a evidence was corroborative of that given by the former witnesses. Mr. Stout addressed the Bench for Captain Johnson. He objected to the jurisdiction of the Court, and said that it had not been proved th*t drunkenness on tbe dfflera' part had led to ihe accident. Mr. Haggltt, on behalf of the Customs, said that incompetency had been fully proved. The Bench reßerged its decision until Wednesday. Wellington. January 19. The ship Salisbury from London was outside the beads yesterday, but has been unable to get in since owing to a strong north-west wind that has been blowing. the has a batch of Colonel Fielding's immigrants on board. Invcrcargiil, January 19. The Governor arrived from Queenstown on Saturday evening, aud was received at the railway station by a large concourse of people. He made a suitable reply. There will be a luncheon to-day, and & ball tcmorrow.
