MELBOURNE. January 8. — - The 22 cricketers at Ballarat made a very creditable score of 274 in their one innings, and the match then resulted in a draw. To-day the eleven commenced their third match in the colony afc Stawell, against 22 of the district. Nearly all the Ministers are absent from town, and political news is therefore dull. Governor Bowen is still in Tasmania. A match at hand ball between Melbourne and Sydney players comes off on the 15th. The revenue returns issued last night show au increase of £92,456 on the quarter, and £137,112 on the year. The principal increase was from the Customs and public works. Arabella Goddard ia likely to return from the East, and to proceed to New Zealand On accoitnt of bad health no concerts were given in India. The February steamer Bangalore will go direct through from Melbourne to Southampton. One child was drowned in the Surrey paddock, by accident, on the Ist. Sugars are selling freely, and fine samples of Queensland are in the market which is glutted. Geneva is wanted, and 14s hns been refused ; Bass' ale, £8; greasy wool is in demand for America. SYDNEY. Mr Stewart's residence near Sprachaven was burned down on Monday through a kerosine lamp exploding; two of tbe family were badly burnt and one is not expected to recover. Tbe Governor gives a fancy dress ball on the Bth April. QUEENSLAND. The ministry resigned on the meeting of Parliament. Mr Macalister is likely to be sent for. THE LATEST. Queenscliffe, January 8.
