This company hn 1 ? been formed ior the purpose of providing inure dßcient steam communication between the di'r.;rc"..c ports of New Zealand—the want of which h-s been much felt for some time past, and wliich ia becoming more perceptible as the growing tnde of die colony is developed. It ia desired to establish a weekly line of Steamers between Otngo ancl the principal Northern porta, to put on a stenraer between Dunedin and the West Coast Ports of the. Middle Island, and also to provide for tho efficient conduct, of the r.vadc two and from the Beveral smaller Ports on the Coasts of Otago and Canterbury. For these purpose:! the following new vessels will be required : — Three first- claps Steamers for the trade between Lunedin and Manakau, to be bnilt in Europe, and capable of carrying Irom 40 ) to 500 tons of cargo, fitted with compound engines and the latest improvements, and with superior passeagiu' accommodation, suited to the requirements of the prebent day. These steamu:\< will be o such class and speed as will ensure every facility to shippers of goods, and convenience to the travelling public. One bout of smaller capacity and light draft ot vatcr. especially adapted to the trade to tho West Const of the Middle Island. With a view tn commencing operations without delay, it has been r-.rranged to take over, on the Ist of January next, the steamers Miori, Beautiful * tar, and ISamson, belonging to the Harbour Ste.v.,i Company's fi?et, and also their new steamer, just built; on the Clyde, specially for the Timaru aud Lyttelton trade, and which is expected tii !irriv«? in the colony cirly in February. These vessels wi'l at onoe create a revenue for the C-nupany, and, it is tielieved.wi'l be sufficient to carry on the trade of the ports on the Coasts of Otiivo and Canterbury. Mr James Mills, who han go successfully conducted the business of the Harhor Company from its comioeuceiuear, will coatiuue to act as Mmi tiger of this Company. It iv ostimfited that, to carry out these proposals, a capital of £150,000 will be required, and to provide for this it is proposed to call up £4 per share, ranking a total of £100,000, and to borrow the remaining £50,000 on debentures bearing a low rate oi interest. This arrangement will enable larger divideuds to be declared on the paid-up capital. Out ot tho fol vi number of shares, the proprietors of the Harbor Oi.mpauy wili take 7,500 paid up to the extent of £i each and tho remaining 17,500 are now offered to investors. ln recommending this investment to the public, the Provisional Directors may state that large profits are now being made by steamers on the Coast of New Zealand, and they are therefore confident that, by the employment of vessels of the character indicated, fitted to work with the utmost economy, and meet the growing traffic without undue strain, the Company will be able to secure ample profits, and at the same time promote trade and the convenience of the travelling publii-, by providing improved facilities and accommodation at reduced rates.
