The average attendance wrs ! 5,000 eacli day. The weather was floe and great interest %yas manifested throughout The Eighteen were very strong, being the pick of the Colony. They went in first and scored 266; Cooper made a splendid innings of 84 runs; he played grandly, the bowling being hit about in nil directions. Frequent changes were made. lillywhite, Southstone, Gilbert, M'lntyre, and the two Graces all went on but tbe score still increased, no less than five men getting hits for double figures. W. Grace took ten wickets and his brother lour. The eieven went in at 1 o'clock ox Saturday forenoon, and all had been disposed of for 110 tuns, before the stumps were drawn for the evening. W. Grace made 33, and waß clean bowled. Great interest was attached to his performances, and disappointment at him so soon being disposed of. He played well. Jupp is a pretty bat, and scored 22; Gilbert, 13; Oscoft, 12; they were the only double figures. Allan took six wickets: Cosßtick, three} and Boyle one (W. G. Grace's). The small score obtained rendered it necessary for the Englishmen to follow their innings, while the Victorians had every expectation 6f winning in one innings. The same evening M'lntre and Humphry had been disposed of for 22; and on Monday the game wa s resumed. It was thought that W . G. Grace and Jupp would pull through. The former played a grand innings for 51, not out, having been missed when he was only 7, but with the exception ot G. F. Grace, with 28, the others made a poor show, and only 135 runs were obtained in the innings, leaving the Victorians winners in one innings by 21 runs. The professionals did little or nothing. The English bowling was very indifferent, and easily played, but the fielding was good; the Victorian bowling was excellent, Allan and Cosstick being better than M'lntyfe, Southeston, and Lillywhite The fielding of the Victorians at times was rathe? loose but generally good. The result ge nerally has caused satisfaction and but little surprise.
