Mr Greenwood, surveyor, met with a somewhat serious loss on Monday last. He has been engaged with his party surveying the line for O'Rourke and party's race, in tbe Addison's district, and had as usual camped out at a short distance from the line. During the day he fancifid he observed a small bush fira burning n^fw the spot whereon his tent had been pita;e.J, ] but did not apprehend danger. On returning at sundown he found that someone had lit a fire at the foot of a small terrace near his tent, and had left the embers burning, and, as a natural consequence in the present dry seaßOD 9 tbe smouldering fire had I spread, burning the grass and undergrowth until it had reached the tent, .where it destroyed every article of any value. Mr Greenwood has lost in addition to the usual field equipment some valuable books and papers, and, worae than ali, a valuable violin which he prised greatly. His many friends will regret extremely to hear of the mishap. — ' Westport Times.'
