The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1873.

Nelson College. — The school prizes were distributed at the College this afternoon by Mr Barnicoat, and the sports prizes " by Mrs A. J. Richmond.' We shall give a full report of tbe proceedings on Monday. SUPERINTENDENCY ELECTION. — Nooofficial reports give the following additional returns: — Upper and Lower Matakitaki, Cnrtis 5, O'Conor 23 ; Lyel), Curtis 8, O'Conor 37 This makes the grand total as follows:— Curtis, 1621; O'Conor, 1301; leaving a majority of 320 in favor of the former. The poll will be declared on Wednesday next at noon. Provincial Scholarships. — At the distribution of prizes at the College this morning, the scholarsnips were awarded < to the successful candidates from, the- Government schools, as follows!— Governors' Scholarships, consisting 4*jf a free education at the College tor two years, for boys attending the Town Schools — William Walker and J. W. Smith, Wigzell and Bolton were deemed worthy bf honorable' mention. Provincial Government Scholarships consisting of £40 a, year,, and, free, education for boys attending the country schools — G.
