INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET MATCH.

The match between the Aockland Invincibleß and a Nelson eleven was played in the Botanical Gardens yesterday, and Nelson men are not congratulating; themselves on the result, for, successful as the Auckland team has been in its southern tour, none of its opponents have bean so completely routed a3 were those who met them yesterday. Play commenced at a little before ten, the Nelaon men being sent to lhe wickets flrst, Auckland having won the toss. In a quarter of an hour four wickets had fallen for as many runs, acd it was not until Denshire joined Cross tbat anythiog like a stand waa made against the fatal bowling and smart fielding of the Northerners. Thesa two however managed to knock the bali about and keep the Geld alivo for some time until Denshiio was caught off tho hand by Bellars at the wicket, the score thon standing at 26 for Aye wickets. He was succeeded by White, and a few more runs were added when Cross was cleverly caught at long field by Dufaur, after running up a very creditable total of 17. Coles followed btit,-w_s fioan disposed of by one of Eobinson's left handers, and made room for Jackson, who, [though a firstrate long stop, was a little too slow j with his bat, nod had so succumb to tbe j first swift ball he received from Sweet. His pluce was taken by Sellon, who unfortunately was suffering from a sprained wrist, and was unable to acquit himself in his usual manner. Some steady play ensued, but vlry few runs being obtained, until the bali found its way off White's leg into hia wicket. Blundell then appeared as the last man, and after one hit for two he put the bali into Mumford's hands at point, aod had to retire, Sellon carrying his bat out. This brought the innings to a close, Nelson having been got rid of in an hour and a quarter for 40 runs. After a short delay the Auckland captain sent Cotton and Buckland to the wicket to the bowling of Wis. and Cross. The latter after 8 runs bad been scored found his way into Cotton's wicket, and made room for Mumford, who before very long bad also to acknowledge thafe Gross was a dangerous bowler. Bellars followed and as runs were being made rather too fasf, C. Koapp was put on to bowl in $he place of Wis, and his first ball sent Bellars to the tent. Dafaur was the next man, and still the score kept increasing, until when Buckland waa despatched by Cross, it stood at 28 for four wickets. Yates Chen took the bat, and in a few minutes it was fouud that the bowlers and the field had their work cut out for- tbem. For nearly an hour these two held their ground, and drove the ball in all directions. Blundell waa then put on to relieve Knapp, and in his third over found his way to Dufaur s middle stump, but by this time Nelson was hopelessly beaten, the score standing at 88 for five wickets. The lunch adjournment then took place, after which King took the bat vice Dufaur, but waa not able to stand long before the bowling of Cross. B jbiaaon followed, and the scorers were fi^ept busily employed for soma time, >atil Blundell p-it in a ball which he was unable to stop in time to prevent the disappearaoca of. hia off stump. Sweet was the nest to ahow up aod still runs wore nude unpleasantly fast until Yatos was rug out in an attempt to steal a bye, the ball being cleverly picked ug and smartly thrown in by Jackson. Alps who succeeded him was, after adding a tntta to the score, removed frean the scene of his labors 'by Bdundell, who, a few minutes Ltar, alao got rid of Sweet*. The Nelson team did not look hopeful whan ou aijouruing to tha aaorer'a tent they fouul tn„ against their 40 Auckland had muJo 131 Perhaps U would be better not to say anything of Ndlsoa'a second innings.
