CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Ed tor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir—A report havingbeen industriously spread in the interests of Mr O'Conor that our firm receives a commission of five per cent oa all coal imported into Nelson from Newcastle. We should not hive noticed this absurdly untrue report, were it not; tuat within the last few days we find that it?has been reasserted with increased energy, coupled with the insinuation that the Superintendent has consequently felt it to be to his interest to retard the development of the local coalfields. . We desire explicitly to state that we have not during the last ten years imported a single ton of c ial, and that we have not during that period hnd any interest whatever, whether by way of commission or otherwise in any of the coal imported irom Newcastie or elsewhere. We are, &c, Curtis Brothers. Nelson, November 25,1873,
