The promoters of the Sugar Refinery have communicated with the General Government asking lor assistance to ths undertaking, but as yet have received no reply. Napier, November 24. A block of agricultural hnd, partly timbered, in the Bay of Plenty district, with the best hot springs in the country, has been leased by tbe Government for 22 years. A new woollen factory is to be started at Kakara. A new Scotch Church was opened yesterday. Tenders are called for the construction of the Green Island railway. Messrs. Brogden are to receive a bonus from the General Government if the Clutha railway is finished within contract time. Tiie Mayor has proclaimed Monday afternoon a holiday, on account of the cricket match. At the opening of the new Scotch Chnrch yesterday, XIOO was collected. 12.20 p.m. The Auckland Cricketers have just arrived. The batting is 3tol on Auckland. Ihe weather is splendid. Two thousand persons are present. 3.25 p. ra. King and Cotton missel their passage at Lyttelton Play commenced at eleven. Dune in won the toss nd went in. The weather is splendid and the scoring as far— one for six, two for eight, : three for nine, four for 24 five for ?8, six for 28. seven for 53. The score is now 70, with four wickets to go down. Garwood is making a fine stand, having scored 30.
