Thuhsbay, November 6. Present — Messrs Bamicoat (chairman), Campbell, Masters, W. P. Smitl), Kelling, Mercer, Shephard. Rout, Taibot, Gario, Fell, JacksoD, Wigzell, Simmons, and Bom. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The Rev A. G. Soatar, Cfaairmau of the ]a(e Weetport Committee, having obtained leave to make a statement in explanation of the unauthorised expenditure of the late Committee, amounting to £21 8s BJ, payment of which bad been refused by (be Board, it was proposed by Mr Shepbard that the money be paid. An amendment by Mr Simmons, proposing the appointment of a Committee to scrutinise the itcDOB of the expenditure before pnyment, was carried. Tbe committee to consist of Messrs Sbephard, Rout, Wigzel.', and the mover. A letter having been read from Mrs Duffy, the late mistress of the subsidised school at Addison's Flat, requesting the Board to allow her a quorter's subsidy, in consideration of her being disabled by sickness, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Campbell, that one month's subsidy be granted. u Tbe further discussion of the amendment and additions to tbe bye-laws was postponed, owing to the press of business, nnlil next, mornin?, on tbe motion of Mr Root. Resolved, on (he motion of Mr Rout, "Tbßt £7 be granted to the Motupiko Committee to fence in the school land." Resolved, on the motion of Jlr Mercer, ' " That in conseqoeuce of the greatly increased attendance at tbe Watmea West village school, which has risen to nearly fifty daily, an assistant teucher, at £24 per annum, be appointed from November Ist." Resolved, on the motion of Mr Shephard, '■• " Tnat 250 copies of (he Education Acts now in force be printed in the form of nn octavo pamphlet for distribution." A memorial from several inhabitants of East Takaka was read, requesting the j Beard to contribute one-haif the cost of a school-room, the memorialists undertaking to provide a site, and to defray tbe remaining half of the cost of tbe l.uilding. Assistance towards tbe maintenance of a teacher was also asked for. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Shepbard, "That £15 be alloweJ as a contribution towards thepropoaed building, provided the property be conveyed to tbe Board. And further, I bat tbe usual rate of subsidy, £2 for each scholar in daily attendance, be granted from the date of the opening of the school." A letter was read from Mr Moore, of Charleston, asking for the consent of the Board to his selling tbe disused school* room in Princes-street. Resolved, on the motioD of Mr Shephard, "That, the Board, without entering^ into the question of the ownership of the/ Princes-street schoolroom, will not consent' to the sale of the building unless the £15 formerly expended by tbe Boarfl in repairs be repaid." | Resolved, on the motion of Mr Shep- ' hard, "That £15 be expended on additional desks and forms at Westport," f A letter was read from tbe Secretary (to the Wesiport Committee, applying for additional school accommodation, and for . a teacher's house.
