The new buildingwhich will be of a very extensive character wili be erected immediately opposite the Government House, and will contain 160 rooms. The extraordinary session of the Provincial Council opens to-dsy, chiefly with the object of obtaining assent to the appropriation of -£150,000. Permission has been given to erect stations on hehalf of the American Government for observing the transit of ..Venus, one at the southern part of New Zealand, and one at Auckland or Campbell's Island. The instruments of the observers will be admitted duty free. The Governor returned from the West Coast yesterday on horseback. The Premier leaves for Christchurch by the Luna on Thursday. Mr Bathgate is expected from Dunedin by the first steamer next week. The bakers here agree to charge eightpeuce far the four pound hat either sold at the counter or delivered. Dunedin, November 5. A private letter states that the Lyster Opera Company has broken up, and that consequently they will not visit New Zealand. The Times calla upon Mr Bathgate to address his constituents.
