Compliance with the request of the deputation of the National Agricultural Show is published in the Government Gazette, prohibiting the im- . portation of New Zealand cattle. There was a grand demonstration yesterday on the occasion of the opening of the line to Mang'aratta. The Railway Bill has passed the' Assembly. A clerk in the Lands Office has disappeared — suppose to be gone to New Zealand. The bakers' Mrike commenced on Saturday. A large meenbg of seamen demanding eight hours, refused to sign articles- on any other terms after the lst of November. The Bishop of Melbourne defends New Zealand missionaries against Dr Lang. A newjDiocese has been created at Ballarat. Governor Bowen has publicly opened the Turkish baths. The final acceptances for the Cup are 35, Derby 51. The latest betting quotations for the Derby and Cup are 500 to 6 agst Mountaineer & Yattenden, 1000 to 11 agst Mountaineer and Don Juan, 200 to 3 agst Mountaineer & Dagworth, 300 to 2 ' agst lapidist & Lady-at-Hole, 100 to 2 agst Rose Amur and Don Juan. Pender and Wilson, two Wealthy larrikins of the upper class, have been sentenced to seven days imprisonment for assaulting the proprietor of Scott's Hotel. Bridget M'Carthy charged with throwing her child to the pigs has been sentenced to two years for concealment of its birth. The National Agricultural Show was the finest yet held in Melbourne. The Government on the 22nd instant, issued a proclamation prohibiting" the importation of cattle or fodder from New Zealand and Victoria, because the latter had refused to prohibit the importation of New Zealand cattle. The prohibition has since been removed as regards Victoria. Adelaide, October 27. A new flax pulling plough has been invented by W. T. Gray. Fears are entertainer for the harvest.
