The Independent of the 3rd inst. contains an announcement tbat Mr William Henry Eyes is unable to meet his engagements with his creditors. A severe hailstorm, tbe heaviest ever known in the district, occurred on the Canterbury plains westward of Burnham, on Thursday last. It commenced about eleven o'clock, and when it was over there was a layer of hailstones on the ground about five inches deep. The storm only extended over a strip of country about two miles wide, and its course was from Homebush via Bangor towards Burnham.
