The Marlborough Express states that schooner Canterbury, which was lately wrecked at the Kaikoura, has been repaired at tbat port, and is now loading with limestone aud potatoes for Wellington. The Herald disapproves of the challenges to the various provinces issued by the Auckland cricketers, as being hastily made, and with arrangements imperfectly matured. It says : — «' We must not forget that our neighbors have been challenged by us, and, therefore, expect that at least we are capable of showing them good cricket as some justification for having thrown down the gauntlet. If our neigh" bore had invited us to play them a few friendly games, we m4-_ht be pardoned in acceptation, if, at the same time, we had informed them that we did so with the hope of giving an impetus to cricket, with but a alight hope of winning. But to boldly challenge the colony, and then show our utter inability to cope with our antagonists, is presumption of the worst class.'*
