CENTRAL BOARD of EDUCATION.
The Board met yesterday. Present : Messrs. Barniconr, Rout, Campbell, Talbor, Broad, Thorpe, Gario, Juekson, Burn, R. Smith, Wipzell, Masters, Buddip, Pe. cy, Simmons, Mercer, Roae. Resolved, on (he motion of Mr Burn, iv reply to nn application for pnyment of quarter's subsidy to tire late Mistress of i .Addiaon's Flat School (the school having been closed during the whole of the quarter), That no payment to a subsidised i school can be made by the Board under : such circumstances. Resolved, That fchq Secretary advertise i for tenders to lease Beveral of the Educa- ■ tion Reserves, a list of which was laid before the Board.
Resolved, on the motion of the Board That whereas the Upper Takaka Committee have voluntarily contributed in cash and labor towards the improvement of the school property at Long Plain, the Board will grant £4 towards certain improvements now wanted. Mr Campbell, having amended his motion, by leave,, as follows: That the salary of Mrs Bryant, of River Terrace School, apd that of Mrs Robinson, of Motupipi School, be szv^rally increased by £10 per annum, the following amendment by Mr Broad was carried, That the Board sympathises with Mr Campbell's application, but, having now no funds at its disposal, it will recommend the Finance Committee to specially ' consider the matter at it's next meeting. Resolved ou the motion of Mr Talbot, that ag the ratepayers of P»ngntotara have complied with the condition laid down by the Board at i|s meeting of (September 4, by signifying in writing the concurrence of two-thirda of their number in the site offered by Mr Heath, the Committee be authorised to remove the present school to the proposed si.'c ac once, afc a <oet of not more than £25. Resolved on the motion of Mr Rout, That the education reserve afc Ngatitnoti be transferred from the present occupant, Mr Brunei, to Mr John Prisons, on the understanding that the annual rent is to be two pounds, and that the first year's rent is to be paid in advance when J. Parsons takes possession of th?i reserve. The following notices of motion were given:— 1. By Mr Barnicoar, Thnt £7 be allowed to the Motupiko Committee for fencing the school ground* 2. By Mr Mercer, That &■>. assistant tr-acher be appointed to the Waimea West Village School. 3.
