Hokitika, September 24. A large rush is taking place to the Haast river, although no further news has been received. The (ug Titan sailed to-day with sixty passeugers and a fuli cargo. Other steamers will follow to-night. Tbe schooner Buccleuch, bound for Dunedin, has beeu thrown upon the beach, the tow rope having parted wheu she was being towed out by ihe Titan. The Independent to-day severely condemns the report of the Committee on Mr Brog'deu's petition, and accuses the Government of having suppressed certain correspondence from the Agent-General regarding Mr Brogden's claim under the immigration contracts. It says that an interview took place between the AgentGeneral, Mr John Hall, and Mr James Brogden, tbe result of which was that the Agent-General wroto to the Government recommending that the proposal of Mr Brog-ien be accepted. Complaints are made that the Government inviting tenders for coal specify the produce of New South Wales. Arrived: the ship Douglas from Londor, with 400 immigrants. Six deaths occurred cn the passage. Smallpox aDd low fever are on board. She is in quarantine. Alexandra, Sept. 25. The report that Purukutu is again on the move is not true. Yesterday Kuiti was planning potatoes. Takerai, the principal Waikato chief has arrived to see Mr Mackay.
