WAIMEA ROAD BOARD.

Tuesday, September 2. The Board met at Bridge Hotel; all the members present. The Overseer reported that the repairs to Richmond-road amounted to £13 10a ; Tutu line, £11 10s ; Spring Grove, £18 12s ; Pigeon Valley, £20 18a ; Quail Valley, £3 16s ; clearing channel and repairs to bridge, Redwood's Valley, £6 6s ; in Dovedale, £38 15s 6d, lowering banks and new culvert. He had purchased from Mr Jellyman some screened gravel at 15s per yard, delivered on the road between the stream at Stoke and Rowbotbam's road. The repairs at Mr Jervis's, Foxhill, amounted to £9 16s. The Overseer was instructed to inquire on what terms he could obtain stone (either broken or as picked off the ground) from the farmers occupying the stoney land in the Waimea and elsewhere, and who are ridding the land from time to time of this incumbrance. The tender for screening gravel at Ranzau not being considered eligible, none were accepted. For gravelling the road at Lower Wakefield, E. Higgins's, at £2 a chain, was accepted; for the portions in Maddock's bush. Of the tenders for the supply of horses and carts when required, those at 10s and 14s per day were accepted. The Secretary reported having sent notices about the approaches to the Star and Wheatsheaf luns, Richmond, which have been complied with. Two letters were received from the Provincial Secretary, one stating that the Inspector of Works had been instructed to point out where shingle can be taken from ; the other that the Magistrate's order for the road at AUington had been confirmed by the Superintendent. Resolved, •' That the District Land Registrar be requested when issuing a transfer of section 170, Waimea East, to reserve that road to the public. A letter was received from the Provincial Secretary, stating that in the absence of the Superintendent he could not say when the amount voted for the road from Quail Valley to Foxhill will be available; also, in reference to the vote for the Moutere Hill road, " before promising to hand over aoy portion of the vote, the Government require to be informed of the lowest amount for which the road can be completed, and also what proportion of the work is to be performed by the Waimea and Moutere Road Boards respectively. to the work within the Waimea limits; or, if entrusted with the new vote of £400, to complete the road to where the Moutere Board has left off, a point 38 chains (as measured by the. road) within the Moutere district. The contractor for delivering shingle attended and reported that no more was obtainable from Nelson, Resolved, "That lho Government having taken the wharf, and the Harbormaster having stopped the taking of shingle, tenders be invited (receivable on the 12th instant) for tbe purchase of tbe barge.'' A warrant was signed by the chairman authorising fho Overseer and Surveyor to s^ako the assessment for the current year of all the rateablo properties at the estimated value to sell. The assessment to be ready by Saturday the 13th, when a special meeting would be held to examine tbe same. An applicafion was received from Mr Neale, Wakefield, for assistance towards clearing out the side ditch by his property. The Board agreed io pay half the cost, the clearing out beiog beneficial to the road. Mr G. Eaves attended to request that some bridges in Bridge Valley, which had lately fallen in should be replaced. Tbe Overseer was instructed to attend io the matter. Warrants were signed for £228 10s sd. It wns resolved "that the r.r-xt monthly meeting be held on the 30rh."
