Wellington, September 18. A meeting of Mr Vogei's principal supporters wa* held this morning at the Ministerial residence, the result of which is not knovvu. A meeting of all tho supporters of the Provincial Loans Bill is fixed for tc-morrow. September 19—Noon. At a meeting of Ministerial supporters to be held tc-day, a piopo3nl will be made to introduce a property tax into tbe Lower House, and if the measure is thrown out by the Upper House Ministers will appeal (o the country. 1 p.m. Forty-seven members met at Mr Vogei's caucus to-day. Forty-four pledged themselves to support the Government iv their present action. It was also decided to send up the Provincial Loans Bill separately, retaining all the principnl features of the former bill, but striking out the rating clauses. The intention is to test the question whether the Council will allow the provinces to borrow. If the Council will not support this, the Government will introduce a property tax, rating all descriptions of property, aud will endeavor to raise furiher loans on the security of the property tax; property under £500 ia to b« excluded. If the Council rejects these Government measures, the Government will appeal to the Home Government for power to reconstruct the Upper House. Y/angnnui, September 18. Mr Hutchison has been elected Mayor. Dunedin, S-ptember 18. A Typographical Association has been formed here. The National Insurance Company commence busiueds on the 25th instant. Lyttelton, September 18. The Claud Hamilton sails late to-night for Dunedin. Auckland, September 18. South British 455, Caledonians £12. At the inquest on tba late fire an open verdict waa returned.
