In the Legislative Council, the second reading of the Native Reserves Bill was carried, after a sharp discussion, on a division by 20 to 10.

In the House yesterday, the Native Lands Bill was read a third time.

Mr Sheehan protested against the passing of the bill, as the clauses introduced yesterday had totally altered the bill, and made it injurious to the natives, and likely to cause trouble.

The Provincial Empowering Bill wbb further considered in committee.

The following are the Provincial Loan Acts introduced : — Wellington, £175,000, secured on 180,600 acres, for works on the West Coast and inland. A bill introduced by Mr Macandrew proposes a loan of £200,000 for a railway from Lawrence, running through the centre of the goldfields of Otagoj the security to be land selected along the line of railway. Marlborough : A loan of £50,000 for two Hneß of tramway, one being a feeder to the railway; also, for bridges over the Wairau, Awatere, Clarence, and Waihopai.

It appeared that Mr Swanson's evidence before the Select Committee bad been impugned, and that in the printed report of the Committee's proceedings had been suppressed.
