; Weliington, September 4. - In the House yesterday, the Minister of Poblic* Works promised to show, next session, the results of inquiries relative to the utility of New Zealand timber for public works. The Premier announced that a compromise between the New Zealand and Otago Universities is probable. The Premier has promised a steam service between Wellington 1 aud Auckland, im. the East Coaat. The House agreed that the University reserve of 20,000 acres of land at Tauranga may be used for- settlement. ■ The production of further papers relative to the dismissal of Mr Worgan was ogree"d to. 'The ' Coal Mines Regulation Bill wa3 read a second, time to affirm the principle. The .Gold Mining Districts Bill passed in Committee with trifling amepdiyjenta. The Grey River Coal Reserves Rill was withdrawn on the understanding that the same provisions be introduced in the Province oi Weatiafl-t Bill.
