Wellington, September 1. The New Zealand Shipping Company have attached the barque Anne Melhuish for £2,000, claimed as salvage. The case will be tried in the Vice- Admiralty Court. The inquiry regarding the grounding of the Ladybird in Mannkau harbor, was continued to-day. Several passengers deposed that Captain Daniels was intoxicated. The steward, the cook, and several able seamen swear that the captain was sober. Arrived : Amateur, from Newcastle. Mr. Gisborne, formerly Colonial Secretary,"writes defending the Fox Government against the charges of granting extra allowances to Governor Bowen. The Tapscott crew defence subscription fnnd is being largely increased. The inquiry regarding the grounding of the Ladabird is closed. The decision is postponed. A rule nisi to be applied for hy the defence in the Supreme Court.Auckland, September 1. Toe first year of the South British Company has terminated, The instalments of the company atuount to £43,000. The profits will yield a ten per cent, dividend. Arrangements are being made for shipping business. Bluff, September 1. The s.s, Albion, Captain John M'Lean, has arrived with the English July mail. The Albion sailed -at 12*15 a.m. on the 28th Aagaat, and arrived at the Bluff at 6 p.m. to-dsy. She bring* 52 saloon and
85 steerage passengers, and 523 tons of goods for the various ports. She has thirteen of the Dallum Towers's passengers, and will sail for Danedin at 4 p.m. to-morrow.
