' Resident Magistrate's Court. — Thomas Norton and James Dall have been brought before the bench charged with vagrancy, and sentenced to three months imprisonment. Education Rate. — Tbe annual rate will be payable on Saturday next between the hours of ten and four at the advertised. New Zealand Meat Preserving Company. — An advertisement appears in our columns calling for tenders for the supply of 390,000 feet of white and red pine to be delivered at the works at
Timaru. Tenders to bo sent in not later than Monday next. * The Ketch Wanderer. — A private telegram has bean received this morning from Mr Maclean the master of the Wanderer, seating that sho wa3 lost off Timaru, but all hands wers saved. She was built in Nelson, and owned by Mr Henry Mankelow. Musical Entertainment. — Un fortunately the weather wks so stormy last night that the audience was not os large as would otherwise have been tho case. This was to bo regretted, for those who took part in the performance had evidently been at great pains iu making the necessary preparation. Bolh parts of the entertainment went off in tbe most satisfactory manner, and we trust that on another occasion Mrs Palmer will receive better treatment at the bauds of tho clerk of tho weather. Carriage Manufactory.— A very handsome and well finished waggonette has just been turned out at the manufactory of Messrs. Christian and Ponton iu Bridge-street. The hood is so constructed that by a clever arrangement of the iron supports it can be lowered at will without causing any inconvenience to those sitting either in the box or in tho body of the conveyance. Tbe painting, which is the work of Mr Ponion, is really excellent and neat in the extreme. Wo are glad to learn that a purchaser has been found at once in the person of Mr M'Gee, of the Nelson Hotel. Football. — The Nelson Football club will play the last game of the season on Saturday next, at the Botanical Reserve. The match is to be Heavy Weights; (or those who weigh over lOst. 71bs), against Light Weights, (or those who weigh less than lOst. 7lbs). The names of tbe players are: — Henvy Weights: D. Barnett, Blundell, Burnett, Adams, Home, G.Jenkins, Morse, Nicholson, Otterson, Roy, Speed, Stroug, and Waruock. Light Weights: Barnicoat, Blackburn, Campbell, Clousten, Fearon, Harvey, Kilgour, R. Jenkins, G. Nicholson, Scaife, R. C. Tennent, D. 6. Tennenr, and Wells. Supreme Court. — The Court is atill occupied with the case of Eyes v. Henderson, which will certainly last till mid-day to-morrow, and probably until the evening. It was stated this morning that the next case to be heard is that of Thomas v. Edwards, which will be taken immediately this one is concluded. The Court will not sit after lunch time on Saturday, and Symons v. Wilkie will not come on for hearing until Monday. Mr Hunter Brown called attention to tho great inconvenience caused by the detention of three juries during the whole time that one lengthy case was being beard. His Honor admitted the inconvenience, but said that he could not see how it was to be avoided.
