Fire Brigade Dinner. — The aunual dinner of the Auxiliary Fire Brigade will he held in the Custom House Hotel tomorrow evening. We have received No. 5 of the Australasian Sketcher, which is by far the hest that, has yet been published. The subjects of the engravings are interesting, and their execution excellent. All Saints' Church. — The next monthly Cathedral Set vice will be held at All Saints' Church to-morrow evening. These services have been well attended and gnatly enjoyed by all, to whose minds ihey bring bat k the recollections of the noble musio that is to he heard iu our old English Cathedrals. Intk,rprovincial Football Match. — The Nelson Football players sailed iu the Phoebe this afternoon for Wellington, where a match is to be played to-morrow afternoon. Twelve started, and will be joined by three more Nelsou men who are
now in Wellington. The team is an excellent one, and provided thoy are not upset by their sea trip, our representatives should bo able to render a good account of themselve-3. Mr Luckie and the Mail Service. — A few of the electors of Nelson met tit Mr Eout's oflice this morning, when Mr Luckie was present hy invitation to explain his reasons for voting against the Cook Strait .nail service. We have not. time now to enter into the matter fully, but shall refer to if. tomorrow. In the meantime we may state that, the explanation given by Mr Luckie was most unsatisfactory. Accident. — An accident occurred at the wharf this morning to Mr Nalder, in the employ of Messrs Hooper & Dodson, who, in unloading a cask of beer from the dray, had one of his lingers badly crushed between the cask and the wheel of ft neighboring cart. The fact is thai; the road at that part is far 100 narrow when three or four steamers happen to be loading nnd discharging at the same time. This morning there was scarcely room for the cabs to pays between (he crowd of drays tbat, were congregated at the entrance to tho wharf. Parish of Christ Church. — A meeting of parieionera was held last night for the purpose of devising some means of extricating tho pai ish from its present liabilities. After some conversation on the subject, it, was unanimously resolved that, the st-at holders be iuvited lo contribute the sum of 10s per silting, half to be paid now, and the balance on the 31st December. All those who were present or who had provided proxies, bound themselves to act, upon the resolution, which it is hoped will meet with the approval of the parishioners generally.
