Wabdrop, Esq , i-hortland-street. THE rapidly-increasing importance o£ the mercantile interests in the group of iulancls i comprised in the Kingdom of Hji, and the ! absence of any reliable medium of exchange in that territory, have suggested the formation of thi* Company, which, it is intruded, shall supp'y (rdinary Banking facilities and undertake commercial agency business, by indenting goods, advancing on ihe produce of settlers, and undertaking consignments. Notwithstanding the difficulties which the early settlers in theee Islands hnve encou" tertd the progress made in the development of Commerce has been very satisf-io.tori — the returns of exports and imports exhibiting rapi I expansion. The capabilities ol the Islands for sugar and cotton cultivation are of the. very highpst description, an * with the introduction ot capital and the means afforded to planters to turn their produce tp aictunt, there can be no doubt that the above interetsts will be very speedily and largely increased. Already tracts of country have been secured by plante-s from other sugar-proou'-ing countries, the climate and soil of Fiji offering superior advant ges. The European population is already considerable, and rapidly incrrasing ; and the general d« sire to support law and order, and the partial r- cognition of the Government b*. Great Britain, afford a reasonable ground for believing that transactions in F-ji may be undertaken wiih J safety, and with th-e same recourse as in more 8> ttled communities;. Important concensione, including an fxclusive ri#ht to issue bank notes, and to transact all Government business, are under i ffer to the Company; and from data famished to the promoters, it is believed that a vfry satisfactory return on the capital to be inv ested will be ensured. The scope of the Company's operations will not be confined to Hji, but will embrace the numerous groups of islands in the Pacific, as encouragement may from time to lime offer. It is believed that a paid-up Capital of _SSO 000 will, for a time, amply provide for the current requiiements of the Company, the unpaid • apital rennining as a basis for credit with its Agents, A further issue of shares will be made as required, on terms to be settled by the Board of Directors Of the £2 10/ to be called up on the First Issue of shares, a deposit of 10/ per t-hare will be required on application and a like amount on allotment. Subsequent calls will be made as rt quired, not exceeding £1 per share, with a notice of not less than one month. No promoters' or paid-up shares will be issued, and the preliminary expenses are guaranteed not to exceed £1,000. Applications for shares — accompanied by a deposit of 10/ per share— will be received by the Bank of Kew Zealand, Nelsou, up to the Ist September next, a preference bein? given to priority of application. In event of no allotment being mude, the deposit will he returned in full. Forms of application for shares ran be obtained at ihe Bank of New Zealand, Nelson. Auckland, July -l, 1873. 1862
