BEAD OFFICES: Hereford -street, Christchurch. LONDON OFFICES: India House, Alderman's Walk. D vectors: J, L. CoBTtR (Chairman). George Goold fDeputy Chairman). P. H. RhoD'-s. M H.K. I John Andercom [ Hon, J. T Peacock | Rkgivald Cobb William Reeves, M H. R. Bankers: The Bank op New Zealand. Solicitors : Messrs Garrick and Cowlishaw. The objects of the Company are to provide increased facilities fbr the New Zealand Shipping Trade, by the building, purchnsing, or chartering First-class Vessels suitable for the trade of the Colony. The whole of the original capital — £100,000 was speedily subscribed for and allotted in the Provinces of Canterbury, Otago, Wellington, and other par's of the Colony. The failure of tbe Agent-Gener.l to obtain reasonable terms in London for the conveyance to "he Colony of Emigrants and cargo having enabled the directors to conc'ule a satisfactory eon tract with the Government in the C >lony for such service, it at once beaame necessary to largely increase the capital of the Company with the view of placing it in an undoubted position to perform tlie contract, and otherwise extend its operations The Directors were strengthened in this view by the fact that the Otago Freight Association had alreidy joined tbe Company, that a large number of ihe late Wellington Association had become Hharehnl 'ers with them, and that a strong probability exisied (since substantially realised) that the New Zealand (Auckland) Freight Compan ■ would also amHlgannte At a meeting of the Shareholders held at Chvh bchurch, on the t?oih June, it was decided to increase tbe Capital of the <"ompany to £250,('00, by the creation of 15 000 new shares of £l\) each, to be issued at par, wit'i all thi privileges belonging to the first issue, and to be allotted in the discretion of the Directors. Aheady, in. anticipation of this announcement, aipplicati hii* tor a large number of new shares have been received, thus affording further substantial proof of the confilence reposed by the public in the New Zealand "-hipping Company. The success which has hitherto attended the efforts of the romoters to establish a Colonial Bhipping Company on a basis sufficiently wide and strong to enable them to successfully oppose and check the powerful monopoly of Shaw, saville, and Co., ju-tifies the Directors in appealing with confidence to the public for i-upport. The Di-ectors would specially appeal to the Wool and Grain Growers, and other pr< ducers. ns well as to the Mercantile community, whether importers or exporters, for th'ir aid towards an undertaking which rau-t conduce largely, both directly and indirect y, to their benefit. It is not the intention of the Dinctors to call up more than 50s a share — of this h mount 10s. will be paid on application, and the rem inder at not less than thr. c monthw in calls of 10s each. Applications for Shares of the New Issue will pending the establishment of Agencies of the *- hipping Company in various parts of ihe Colony, be received up to the 15th August nex», at the several offices of the Bank of New Zealand, where forms of application can be obtained ; or, at the Head Offices of the Company, Hereford Street, Christchurch. By order ol the Board of Directors, JOSEPH GOULD, Secretary. Christchurch, July 21, 1P73. 1969
