The Independent to-day 'says the effect of the opposition to the National Bank bill will be to prevent the bank from commencing operations for another year. It is understood in well-informed circles that an Opposition is organising with Mr Fitzherbert as leader. The attack will be made on the budget. Greymouth, August IL A hundred men still on strike ; held a meeting on Saturday night, and resolved not to accept less than eleven shillings per day. Dunedin, August 11. Mr John Douglas has commenced a libel action against Mr G. W. Elliott for a statement made by him at a meeting of the Waste Lands Board. Heavy damages are claimed.
