The patent slip, says the Wellington Independent has been fully employed lately, and is proving itself a great boon to shipowners and an invaluable accommodation to the port. The following vessels havo been raised since the inauguration of tha work in May last, viz : — The barque Pyrus, hulk Moia, s.s. Go-ahead, p.s. Paterson, schooner Excelsior, s.s. Wellington, s.s. Rangatira; also on the small slip belonging to the same company, the ketch Rambler, s.s. Napier, schooner Unity, schooner Cynthia. The necessary machines and workshops will shortly be erected to enable cleaning and repairing of vessels to be carried on with rapidity aud economy, and it is also proposed to commence the business of ship building should it be found practicable.
