I HEREBY GIVE NOTJCjS that I have applied to the Commissioner of down Lands for an Exclusive Righi to WORK an OYSTEIi BED, situated in Tasmau's Corner, Golden Bat, about. 2\ mile j North-easterly direction from the mouth of Puponga Inlet. E. DAVIDSON. 'April 3, 1873. 1814 THE NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COMPANY [LIMITED]. (Incorporated under the Joint Stock Companies' Acts.) CAPITAL : £250,(100— in 25,000 Shakes of £10 each. HEAD OFFICES: Hereford -street, Christchurch. LONDON OFFICES: India House, Alderman's Walk. Directors : J. L. Coster (Chairman). George Gould ("Deputy Chairman). 11. H. Khodks, M.H.R. I John Anderson Hon, J. T. Peacock | Reginald Cobb William Beeves, M.H. E. Bankers: The Bank of New Zealand. Solicitors : Messrs Garrick and Cowlishaw. y e ohjecls of the Company are to provide increased facilities for the New Zealand Shipping Trade, by tbe building, purchasing, or chartering First-class Vessels suitable for the trade of the Colony. The whole of the original capital — £100,000 was speedily subscribed for and allotted in the Provinces of Canterbury, Otago, Wellington, and other pans of the Colony. The failure of the Agent-Genernl to obtain reasonable terms in London for the conveyance to ihe Colony of Emigrants and cargo having enabled the directors to conclude a satisfactory contract with the Government in the Cdony for such service, it at once became necessary to largely increase the capital of the Company with the view of placing it in an undoubted position to perform the contract, and otherwise extend its operations. The Directors were strengthened in this view by tbe fact that the Otago Freight Association had already joined the Company, that a large number of the late Wellington Association had become Shareholders with them, and that a strong probability existed (since substantially realised) that the New Zealand (Auckland) Freight Compan 1- would also amalgamate At a meeting of the Shareholders held at Christchurch, on the 20th June, it was decided to increase the Capital of the Company to £250,000, by the. creation of 15 000 new sharps of £10 each, to be issued at par, with all the privileges belonging to the first issue, and to be allotted in the discretion of the Directors. Already, in anticipation of this announcement, applications lor a large number of new shares .have been received, thus affording further substantial proof of the confidence reposed by the public in the New Zealand Shipping Company. The success which has hitherto attended the efforts of the romoters to establish a Colonial Sh ipping Company on a basis sufficiently wide and strong to enable them, to successfully oppose and check the powerful monopoly of Shaw, Savflle, and Co., justifies the Directors in appealing with confidence to the public for support. The Directors would specially appeal to the Wool and Grain Growers, and other producers, as well as to the Mercantile community, whether importers or exporters, for their aid towards an undertaking which must conduce largely, both directly and indirect'y* to their benefit. It is not the intention of the Directors to call up more than 50s a share — of this amount 10s. will be paid on application, and the reminder at not less than three months in calls of 10s. each. Applications for Shares of the New Issue will, pending the establishment of Agencies of the t- hipping Company in various parts of the Colony, be received up to the 15th August next, at the several offices of the Bank of New Zealand, where, forms of application can be obtained ; or, at the Head Offices of the Company, Hereford Street, Christchurch. By order of the Board of Directors, JOSEPH GOULD, Secretary. Christchurch, July 21, IP/3. 1969
