(Incorporated under the Joiut Stock Companies' Acts.) CAPITAL : £250,000— in 25,000 Shakes of £10 eacb. HEAD OFFICES: Hereford-street, Christchurch. LONDON OFFICES: India House, Alderman's Walk. Directors : J. L. Coster (Chairman). Geokge Gould ("Deputy Chairman). R. H. Rhod-s, M H.R. I John Anderson Hon, J. T Peacock | Reginald Cobb William Reeves, M H. R. Bankers: The Bank oe New Zealand. Solicitors : Messrs Gabrtck and Co*wlisha*w. The objects ofthe Company are to provide increased facilities for the New Zealand Shipping Trade, by the building, purchasing, or chartering First-class Vessels suitable for the trade of the Colony. The whole of the original capital — £100,00° was speedily subscribed for and allotted in the Provinces of Canterbury, Otago , Wellington, and other parts of the Colony. The failure of the 7a gent-General to obtain reasonable terms in London for the conveyance to 'he Colony of Emigrants and cargo having enabled the Hire 'tors to conc'ule a satisfactory contract with the Government in the C >10ny for such service, it at once became neeesstry to largely increase the capital of the Company with the view of placing it in an undoubted position to perform the contract, and otherwise extend its operations. The Directors were strengthened in this view by the fact that the Otago Freight A ssociition had already *j ined the Company, that a large number of the late Wellington Association had become Shareholders with tbem, and that a strong probability existed (nince substantially realised) that the New Zealand (Auckland) Freight Compair> would also amalgamate. At a meeting of the Shareholders held at Christchurch, on the 90th June, it was decided to increase the Capital ot the Company to £250,000, by the creation of 15 000 new shares of £10 each, to be issued at par, with all the privileges belonging to the first is-ue, and to be allotttd in the discretion of the Directors. Already, in anticipation of this announcement, application? lor a large number of new shares have been received, thus affording further substflntial proof of the confidence reposed by the public in the New Z°aland Shipping Company. The success which has hitherto attended the efForts of the romoters to establish a Colonial Shipping Company on a basis sufficiently wide and strong to enable them to successfully oppose and check tho powerful monopoly of Shaw, t-aville, and Co., justifies the Directors in appealing with confidence to the public for fupport. The Directors would specially appeal to the Wool and Grain Growers, and other producers, ns well as tn the Mercantile community, whether in-portcrs or exporters, for thtir aid towards an umiertakin-r wbi< h ntu-t conduce largely, both oircct'y and indirect y, to their benefit. H is not the intention of the Directors to call up more than Sos a share— of this amount 10s. will be piud on Hpphcation, and the rem«inder at not lees than thr- c months io calls of 10s. each. Applications for Shares of the New Issue will, pending the establishment of Agencies of the •-hipping Company in various parts of the <01->ny be received up to the 15th August next, at the severn 1 o f !'Cß.s of the Bank of New Zealand where forms of application can be obtained ; or. at the Head Offices of the Company, Hereford Kireet, < ■hriatehurch. By order ot the Board of Directors, JOSEPH GOULD, Secretary. Chrietchurch, July 21, 1873. 196 J
