Fiauzen stated: I am a ship-chandler at the Port. The woman Jackson, whom I know by sight, came to my shop on Saturday night for a box of matches. No one came in with her, but a man was outside talking to her. After she went away I missed a blanket from the top of a pile there was at tho door. It, was a blue one" the only odo of that color, and that produced I believe to bo it. I saw it at at the door when she came in, and missed it almost immediately after she went out. I was not able to see tho man who was speaking to her. Cross-examined by both prisoners : I did not see either of you actually take the blanket. James Shore, constable: I was on duty at the Port on Saturday night. I went to the house occupied by the prisoners within flvo miuutes of Franzen's t^llin;: rise he had missed the blauket. I found them together. The blauket produced was in the corner of tho bedroom. There was was no one else in that room, but uvo oihers in the house. Jane Meade : I live at the Port. The prisoners lodge with me. They cune home on Saturday night between eiphtand nine o'clock. I was stupid with drink, and had not been out all that evening. They went out and enmo homo together. Lyford bad been sitting wiih me holf-an-hour when prisoners came home. This concluded the evidence. Bbiir was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labor, and Jackson, being an old offender, to four months. Three or four drunkards were fined in the usual amount.
