Notwithstanding the difficulties which the early settlera in theso Islands have encoir terfd, the progress made in the development of Commerce has been very oati^t'ictory — the relums of exports and imports exhibiting rapit expansion. The capabilities oi the Islands for sugar and cotton cultivmion are of the very highest description, an , with the introduction of capital and the menus afforded to planters to turn their produce to account, there can be no doubt that the above interests will be very speedily and largely increased. Already tracts of country have been secured by platite-s from other stigar-proriur-ing countries, the climate and soil of Fiji offering superior advant' gea. The European population ia already considerable, and rapidly increasing ; and the genera! dhsire to support law ami ordtr, and the partial recognition of the Government bi Givan Britain, afford a reasonable ground for believing thnt transactions in Fiji may be undertaken wiih safety, and with the sumo recourse as in more settled communities. Important concession, including an exclusive right to issue bunk notes, and t ) transact all Government business, are under < ff-v to the Company; and from data furnished to the promoters, it is believed that a v.-ry satisfactory return on the capital to be invested will be ensured. The scope of the Company's operations will not be confined to i'iji, but will embrace the numerous groups of islands in the l\ic fie, as encouragement may from time to time offer. 1% is believed thnt a paid-up Capital of £50 000 will, for a time, amply provide for the current requirements of the Company, the unpaid ( apital remaining as a basis for credit with its Agents A further issue of shares will be ai'idc as required, on terms to be settled by the Board of Directors, Of the £2 10/ to be called up on the First Issue of shares, a deposit of 10/ per share ■will be required on application and a like amount on allotment.
