Solicitors: Messra Whitaker & Russell. Secretary (pro tern): A. Wardrop, Ksq., irhortland-atreet. THF rapidly-increasing- importance of the mercantile interests in the group of islands comprised in the Kingdom ot Hji, and the absence of any reliable medium of exchange in that territory, have sugrgesred tho formation of thii Company, which, it ia intended, shall supp y (rdinary Bankinj- facilities and undertake commercial agency business, by in-ienting goods, advancing on lhe produce of settlers, and undertaking consignments. Notwithstanding the difficulties wbich tho early settlers in these Islands have encountered, the progress made in the development of Commerce has been very satisfactory — the returns of exports ar.d imports exhibiting rapli expansion. The capabilities ol the Islands for sugar and cotton cultivation are of the very highest description, an , with the introduction of capital and the means afforded to planters to turn their produce to account, there can bs no doubt that the above interests will be very speedily and largely increased. Already tracts of country have been secured by plante s from other sugarproducing countries, the climate and soil of Fiji offering superior advantages. The European population is already considerable, and rapidly increasing ; and the general desire to support law and order, and the partial recognition of the Government by Great Britain, afford a reasouable ground for believing that transactions iv Fiji may be undertaken with safety, and with tlie same recourse as in more settled communities . Important concession--, including an exclusive right to issue hank notes, and to transact all Government business, are under offer to the Company, and irom data furnished to the promoters, it is believed that a very satisfactory return on the capital to be invested will be ensured. The scope of the Company's operations will not be confined to Hji, but will embrace the numerous groups of islands in lhe Pacific, as encouragement may from time to time offer. Iq. is believed that a paid-up Capital of .£SO 000 will, for a time, amply provide for the current requirements ofthe Company, the unpaid Capital remaining as a basis for credit with its Agents A further issue of shares will be made asrequired, on terms to be settled by the Board of Directors.
