To thb Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sire —l see a great, outcry in the papers in reference to Government officers receiving pensions, and I feel inclined to ask thoso who make it, whether they are quito fair in their remarks ? I3 it not a fact, that Government officials have alwaj's had a distinct expectation, acknowledged by the Government, of a peusiou on their being superannuated; if thay have, are we not bound in common honesty to grant the claim which bas been allowed to become a vested interest, even though we may desire to remove the expectation in the future. Yours, &c, Henry Drew.
