Wellington, July 14. The Independent gives currency to a rumor that the Superintendent of Canterbury intends in the House to raise the question of tbe administration of the public works policy by* the Provincial Gevernments. It is understood that tbe Mining Amendment Bill will include provisions for the Govo-i-ment miniog upon private property. The Schiehallion and Halcione, from London are signalled. The Ahip Halcionf, from London, has been, quarantined, having sickness on board. Ghahamstown, July 14. There was no demons tra tion of Orangemen on Saturday, but a picnic excursion will take place to-day. The only colors displayed were a few orange-blue rosettes.
