SUEZ MAIL SUMMARY.
The Dunedin Volunteer Cups won from the London Scottish are consigned to the care of Sargood, Son, & Co. Art Union prizes have been won by Hamilton, Greymoutb, £75; Moss, Greymouth, £25; Nicholi, Greymoutb, £15. Smaller prizes fell to Hurst, Christchureh; Montague, lnvercargill; Kerr, Greymouth; and Peacock, Christchureh. The text of Napoleon's will is published , It commends bis wife and son to tbe tender consideration of Prance. He leaves £120,000 only, half of which will be realised by his wife and son. Tom Castro has arrived in England from South America, as a witness in the Tichborne case. * The Duke of Edinburgh gets £20,000 a yea_>with his wife. He has declined to reside in Russia. There are various rumors concerning the Pope ; one is that he is dead, and that the Cardinals are concealing it until the new Pope is elected. The high price of iron is commented upon. A letter in the Times from Mrs- Colclough, of Auckland, on female emigration has excited some attention.
At a meeting of the Bank of Otago, it was stated that the profits bad fallen to' £11,000 a year. It is expected that £9 per share will be returned to the shareholders on the winding up, which was lately resolved upon. Departures for New Zealaud— Dallam Tower and James Nichol Fleming for Otago; Countess of Kiniore, for Auckland ; Halcione and Schiehallion, for Wellington; Mary Sheppard, for Canterbury. Thirty-two thousand bales of New Zealand wool arrived in London between February 3 and March 20. On the 16th of May New Zealaud hemp was, ordinary to middliug, £22 15a to £27 ss; fair to good, £27 Jo £30; low, £11 to £14. The market is well stocked, and the trade is depressed.
