- Bluff, July 5. The Alhambra, Captain Underwood, sailed from Melbourne on the 28tb, at 3.30 p.m., with the English mails, and arrived at* the Bluff at 8 o'clock this morning. She experienced easterly gales throughout, and passed the barque Woodville off the Solanders, bound to New Zealand. She brings 8 saloon and 28 steerage passengers, and 260 tons of cargo for all ports. - She sails for Dunedin at 4 p.m. Wellington, July 5. The Hon. D. Pollen has been gazetted Colonial Secretary vice Reynolds resigned. Chbistchurch, July 5. The Directors of the New Zealand Shipping Company have received through their London agent, by cable, an offer from Shaw & Saville for the transfer of their business and ships. Tbe offer has been absolutely declined by the Directors, who intend to maintain an independent course. * Napier, July 5. A npan named WarriDgton has hanged himself. , . George Kirton, the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Poverty Bay, has been fined £50 for contempt of court by not appearing as a witness in a forgery case, whereby justice miscarried.
