MARLBOROUGH INLAND COMMUNICATION.
The following is the report of a Select Committee appointed by the Provincial Council to consider the 1 best means of improving the 'communication between Marlborough and the other Provinces : — " Your Committee having carefully examined the subject referred to them: have come to. the following conclusions : That his Honor should be respectfully requested to take, with as little delay, as possible, the necessary steps to obtain the power of borrowing the sum of £50,000. That this sum should be expended in the erection of , Bridges over the large rivers of the Province, in forming Roads, and in assisting in the formation of Tramways. The Bridges contemplated by your Committee are a8 : follow :■!— On the road between Picton and Christchurch, via the East Coast, Bridges over the Wairau, Awatere, and Clarence rivera; on the road between Blenheim and Nelson, via Havelock, Bridges over the Wakamarina and Pelorus rivers; on the road between Blenheim and the Top-House, Bridges over the Waihopai and Wairau rivers. That dray roads should be made or improved between Blenheim and the TopHouse, Blenheim and Upper Awatere; Blenheim and the South of the Province. ■"■ That the Road Boards should be assistted to the extent of half the cost in making Tramways from Blenheim to the Awntere, : ondvfrom Havelock to the Rai Yalley, under the provisions of the Tramways Act, 1372.'.: , , r 7 T-; •,::.*,*; -....*.
