By his Honor Oswald Curtis, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, in the Islands of New Zealand, &c, &c. WHEREAS, by " The Protection of Animals Act, 1867," it is provided that no GAME shall be Bunted, Shot, Taken, or Killed, in any part of the Colony, until the same shall have been Proclaimed as Open for that purpose: Now therefore I, Oswald Curtis, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, in exercise of the power and authority in me vested in that behalf, do hereby Proclaim and Declare that PHEASANTS and QUAIL maybe SHOT during the month of JUNE next, by persons duly licensed under the above recited Act, or authorised by " The Protection of Animals Act, 1872," in that part of the Province of Nelson included within the undermentioned boundaries, viz.— Commencing at Reef Hatbor, Torrent Bay; thence in a straight line to the summit of Mount Campbell ; thence by the boundary of the South-west Goldfields to the junction of the Rivers Hope and Buller; thence in a straight line to the Tophouse; thence by the boundaries between the Provinces of Nelson and Marlborough to the sea; thence by the sea coast to Reef Harbor. LICENSES to SHOOT PHEASANTS and QUAIL will be issued at this Office on and after Monday, the 19th instant. Any person in bona fide occupation of land not being Waste Lands of the Crown, or some one person appointed by him, may shoot Pheasants and Quail on such land without a License : Provided such land be within the boundaries proclaimed open for Pheasant arid Quail Shooting. NOTICE. — The following Clause of the "Scab Act Amendment Act^lseg," is published for general information :— "Every owner of sheep shall, in the month of January in each year, make a Return to the Chief Inspector, of the Number of Sheep, in his charge, in the Province of Nelson, on the Ist day, of January in such year; and shall, in the month of February in each year, pay or cause; to to be paid to the Treasurer of the province a sum of money at the rate, of three shillings per hundred for all sheep in his charge upon the Ist day -of - January in such, year; and in default thereof the same may be sued for in the name of any Inspector, and the proof of the number of sheep in his charge shall rest with the defendant."
