Great Flood in the Inangahua.-t-A correspondent kindly sent 'as the following telegram from Reefton yesterday, but although it was lodged in the telegraph office at noon, it did not reach us until 6.30 p.m. :— --Great flood in the Inangahua. The whole of the town and Broadway submerged. The camp and police quarters are' under watei*. The whole of the works going on in the street are washed away. It is feared that there will be loss of life. Unto ThiS Fiest .-—An amusing discussion took place in the Council lastnight on the question, introduced by Mr O'Conor, of setting aside a plot of land for the first white Rose that budded in the Inangahua Valley. ; Neither V.ork M nor Lancaster ever produced a blossom surrounded by so many thorns as was this flower of the Inangahua, and Mr O'Conor, recognising the many difficulties thatstood : in the way of attaining his object, wisely..: retired from the. field, leaving his Rose iri statu quo. A report of the proceedings: will be found elsewhere. It is said, witK what truth we know not, that the mover of the resolution was heard to mutter as he left the CouricirChamber :— II rCy a point rbsesans' epirie .'•' '- ' '• ' • ■-"- < -*"*•'' * * '■'•
