The streets are 'encumbered with materials, and furniture. Many . are homeless. The river is encroaching from one. to three chains. All yhar yes .are washed away except Wakefieldstreet wharf. , . Serious encroachment between upper and lower townships; also, above the new township, many acres ; 6f land have been, washed awa-f.7 The new township is, considered unsafe. There is a heavy flood in the Grey river. Houses on the river; side are being removed. It is the heaviest flood ever experienced. The bank at the new township is damaged. The coal- wharf and coals are carried away. The other wharves are shaken.
