[The following Bill jto ; amend the Education Act ■ will bd introduced in tbe Council by Mr Shephard this evening.] Be it enacted by the Superintendent of the Province of Nelson with the advice and. consent of ? the? -Provincial;! Cbqiicil .'thereof: ■' '• ? - '•' '■■-. , ..? V 1. That clause 37* of " the Education Act 1863," shall be and the same is hereby repealed. 2. The Central Board shall from, time to time whenever a vacancy shall occur provide a list of competent teachers from whom all teachers shall be selected by the Local Boards, y 3. Every member of the Centrai Board shall have power to act as a member of the Board until he shall have received notice of his appointment having been revoked, or of his successor having been appointed, or notice thereof shall have been received by the Board. 4. It shall be : lawful : for the Central Board, whenever (hey shall think fit, to grant the use of schoolrooms after school hours for religious instruction, but no. religious instruction shall be given, hor shall the Bible be read in any school, as part of the ordinary school course of instruction. 5. The short title of this Act shall be " the Education Act Amendment Act 1873." *The clause alluded to is as follows: — "Any religious instruction given in such schools shall be free from all controversial character, and shall be imparted at such fixed and previously stated hours, that any parents objecting thereto may be able to withdraw their children from the school at the time when it is given."
