Inland Communication. — The deputation^arrived from Wellington by the Luna this afternoon. Seeing the difficulty that was likely to arise from dealing with the mineral lands if handed over to a Company, they proposed to the Government that they should authorise a Provincial loan of £560,000 on the security of the land. The reply was that, if the railway was to be made out of borrowed money, it should be constructed by the Colonial Public Works Department, in tbe Bame manner as other railways. The Government further stated that their decision, whether they will recommend the Assembly to sanction the making of the Foxhill and Brunner line on the terms slated, will in a great measure depend upon whether the Superintendent makes the application with the cordial consent of his Executive and the Provincial Council. Also, upon the value of the land proposed to be set apart, and in order to ascertain this an officer will be at once appointed to examine and report upon it to the Government. Such is the gist of the interview between the Government and the deputation. The documents that passed between them we shall publish tomorrow.
Star Combination Company.— This Company appeared for the first time at the Oddfellows Hall last night, the house being moderately well filled. We regret that our reporter was unable to be present, but from those who were present we learn that the programme was well and faithfully carried out, and gave general satisfaction.
