The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, MAY 12, 1873.
The Barque Echo, 140 days out from London, arrived in the Bay last night, and was moored alongside the wharf this morning. Wool Sales.-— An unpublished cablegram from London, dated May 5, states that the wool sales are progressing fairly. Combing and washed have declined Id. since the close of the last sales; tbe crossbred market is easier; greasy advanced Id. The sales close on the 31st instant. - Life Assurance. — An interesting and '■ instructive lecture, interspersed with a number of amusing anecdotes, was given at the Masonic Hall, last night, by Mr. Thomson, the travelling agent for tbe Australian Mutual Provident Society. The chair was taken by Mr. Acton Adams. Suburbs Election. — In our advertising columns will be found" an address to , the electors by Mr Selling, in which he states his intention of withdrawing from tbe " contest in favor of Mr Richmond.
