Wellington sth March, 1873. f Sir,— rf^lmve 'the honor to "acknowledge the receipt'of^your letter, on the 25th February,' 'in 'which! you point but the advantages which would accrue to the provinces of Nelson and Canterbury by the completion of a road through the Amuri district, and in reply to inform your Honor that the construction of that road has already been under the consideration of the Government, and a report obtained from Mr Dudley Dobson thereon. In the third parngraph of that report Mr Dobson suggests an expenditure of £3500;. for the completion of a road available for driving stock, and your Honor will no doubt be be glad to learn that the Government purpose acting on Mr Dobson's suggestions as early as practicable, providing for the cost out. of the sum appropriated by Parliament to tbe Nelson south-west goldfielde. ; I have the honor to be, Sir, Your Honor's obedient servant, William Fox, . , Col. -Sec.
