Funeral. — The funeral of the late Mr. Abraham Davis will leave his father's residence, Waimea Road, on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. 853 Parish of Christ Church. — The adjourned .meeting of parishioners wiil be held at the Bishop's Schoolroom this evening, at half-past seven. Professor Louis, who is performing with considerable success, in the country districts, advertises an entertainment at Palmer's Hotel, Waimea West, this evening, at half-past se.ven. Band of Hope. — A meeting of the members of tbe Nelson Band of Hope will be held at the Temperance Hall this evening, when Dr Carr will address the children on tbe principles of temperance. Representation of the Suburbs.—Mr Kelling; we are informed, intends to offer himself as a candidate for the seat in the House of Representatives rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr Richardson. « Perseverance Company. — A' meeting of the shareholders in this Company was held last night, Mr J. C. Richmond in the chair. A discussion took place as to the advisability of stopping all expenses connected with the mine except such as are absolutely necessary for its safety, but it was ultimately decided that the works, which are now being carried on at an expenditure of £80 per week, should be continued. Statistics were placed before the meeting showing that the quantity of quartz crushed since the formation of the Company was 6812 tons, which have yielded 2656 ounces, equal to £10,090, being an average of 7dwts 19grs or 29s 7d per ton. The capital already paid-up is £3 per share. There are 2270 paying shares, which, at the £2 that can still be, called would return £4540, whilst, taking the extreme estimated cost of the proposed works, and the existing liabilities, the sum required would be £3894. The following proposition submitted by the Directors, but their consideration was, on the motion of Mr. Augarde, postponed for a week :— -' The experimental operations below the waterlevel show no prospect of profit unless the work, is carried out on a larger scale than hitherto; ; and for this purpose it would be necessary to call np all the remaining capital of the Company within a short period. Resolved, therefore, that the mine and plant be offered for eale, lease, or tribute or otherwise." '- That^it be an instruction to the Directors to , prefer the transfer of the stock and claims to any other company which may l*e formed to work the Perseverance reef, on condition that shareholders in the present Company are admitted on equitable terms."' Resolved: — That a vote of thanks be given to those ladies and gentlemen who rendered such material assistance towards raising the neeessaVy funds for the purchase of the piano by giving a series of dramatic entertainments: — That a vote of thanks be given to Mr Holloway for his valuable services, to which the Com-: mittee attribute to a large extent the present financial prosperity of the Society. That a drawing for seven shares take place on the 17th of April. This will complete' the repayment of £100 out of £205 originally raised in £1 shares. It was decided that the next concert should take place on Thursday the 24th inst.
